MOVE FORWARD assignment from BPT (Portugal) to BEU Malta Office

„I am driven by challenges“, says Bruno Godinho about himself. Therefore, he was happy to take the chance of a foreign assignment, even if it was not a simple decision. “For me at that moment it was not as easy to leave my country, I am very attached to my family. And if you have a small child like I do, my daughter was my biggest concern. Obviously it was a family discussion, but after a while we came to say: You know what – it’s time to move forward!”

Starting April 2015, Bruno was assigned from Portugal to BEU’s Service and Support Division in Malta, accompanied by his wife and five year old daughter. When it all started, his prospective new manager was very honest with him, saying this program was something new to our organization, but Bruno trusted in him and in the chance this assignment would offer.

Looking back after almost a year, Bruno was sure that he made the right choice. “What led me to the decision to take on the assignment was in fact the possible growth of myself as a Konica Minolta employee – as a person and also as a professional.” And these expectations have started to come true from the very beginning on. After a few weeks of settling-in, he quickly felt comfortable in his new environment and appreciated the chance to engage with different people from various countries and make experiences that he wouldn’t have been able to make in BPT.

The challenge made me grow. From a professional point of view, it is nice to be on the other side of the fence, gaining insight in the requests of support and having now other projects and challenges to work on. I was supporting my local colleagues and now I’m supporting a much wider range, that’s a special plus. Looking at the future, I would regret to not have taken the chance.

And even if at some points Bruno was feeling quite Maltese after a while, he was always keeping up close strings to his home country, not only by visiting family as often as possible, but also through weekly communication with BPT. Leaving colleagues behind after 16 years with BPT was a challenge, but ongoing contact and requests to commonly work on helped to stay in touch.

And also from a personal point of view the assignment was a great success. Bruno’s family settled very well and after a few months his daughter was already speaking and reading in English. “When we went home for vacation, she was even crying, being afraid of going to Portugal and not coming back – that’s how much she enjoyed the time there. As a family, we were totally comfortable on Malta and we are happy that we took the chance to be part of the MOVE FORWARD program.”

And today?

"After my return to Portugal and to BPT, I developed a new approach towards Professional Printing business as Pre-Sales, were I was given the opportunity to expand the sales of PP related software solutions and also make the bridge from the end-customers’ needs and requirements to BPT organization.

The skills acquired during my assignment in CAMEA office were greatly put into daily use and it was definitely the big push to success.

In my assignment in CAMEA office (MOVE FORWARD programme), not only my professional skills were put to a great growth, but also this assignment provided me a bigger and wider visibility within the European organization, as an individual and professional.

These were definitely the main reasons why in the end of 2019, I was invited to join and to be part of a BEU project, in the Industrial Printing arena, as IJ Technical Specialist Manager.

It has been a great journey! Thanks Konica Minolta."
